1979 - In Greece, George Trantalidis and the group “Sphinx” record the first Greek Jazz music record - Abroad, Charles Mingus dies aged 56. Other leading performers join forces in small groups, some of which celebrate his work
1980 - In Greece, the new decade start with 3 Jazz Albums - Abroad, Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Jazz who received a Grammy award in 1980 at the age of 62, had long been one of the most popular vocalist in Jazz.
1981 – In Greece, Mimis Plessas releases 3 jazz albums.Abroad, Miles Davis appears at Newport Jazz Festival. The event marks his return to live performance after a prolonged retirement caused by ill health.

1982- In Greece, Two new jazz albums are released. Abroad, Thelonious Monk dies. His death inspires a rash of memorial tributes, and his compositions remain a core part of the standards repertoire.

1983- In Greece, 4releases this year from Sakis Papadimitriou, Floros Floridis, Anna Simopoulos and Thomas Sliomis with Daunik Lazro. Around the world, Keith Jarrett returned to the trio format, Wynton Marsalis makes musical history & Herbie Hancock’s synthesized dance hit “Rockit”
