5th Jazz in July festival 2016 | Vamos Apokoronou - Hania Crete

Once again, Vamos will host the well-established festival "Jazz in July"! The talented artists will take you to a magical journey in the mystical and enthralling world of jazz! from July 4 at Vamos Rethymnon - Crete - 6939983958 -

7 concerts, a Film Night plus a photo exhibition will make July the most interesting month of the year! The festival will take place at Amphitheatre "β" in Vamos, as usual. This year we will have among us the Grace Flower Quartet (16/7) and the Yiorgos Fakanas Group (30/7) who were supposed to perform last year, but they didn't due to the political and financial circumstances in Greece back then. Tickets: 12 euros at the entrance, 10 euros in advance, 65 euros for all concerts. Free admission for the Film Night. Tickets can be obtained from Wednesday 15/6/2016 at the "Vamos Village" Tourist Office, "Bloumosifis" taverna and "Hasomeri" in Vamos and at the bookstore “Mikro Karavi”, 59 Daskaloyianni str. Tel. 2821401648 in Hania.
In addition: Vamos-Art and Thought organizes, as a part of the festival, the photo exhibition "Blue Notes in black and white" at Hasomeri, Vamos. Black and white photos of the jazz horizon taken by some of the most important photographers of America! Opening day: 5/7/2016, 18:00. Later the same night a gig with Tim Whitehead and Phil Harrison will follow at Hasomeri. The exhibition will last until 3/8/2016 and closes with another gig at Hasomeri: Maria Manousaki, Phil Harrison, Alison Hadjidakis.

JULY 4 – 21:00 - Aggeliki Toubanaki and the Buzz Bastardz -
Aggeliki Toubanaki is a vocalist/musician/performer. Her interest revolves around jazz and folk music (Balkan,Mediterranean, Oriental). She is the lead singer and founder of the musical project «Buzz Bastardz». She has attended master classes on Jazz improvisation (JD Walter, Veneto Jazz Workshops) and classes on Persian classical vocals (Mamak Khadem) Flamenco song (Vicente Gelo), Folk Polyphonic Signing of Epirus, percussions (davul, bendir), Bulgarian singing (Tzvetanka Varimezova) and Classical Ottoman singing (Ahmet Erdogdular).

JULY 27 – 21:00 - Socratis Sinopoulos Quartet
Sokratis Sinopoulos’ Constantinopolitan lyre and quartet scatter to the eight winds, spiriting us along with them on journeys to different musical crossroads.
Sokratis Sinopoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He studied classical guitar while taking lessons in Byzantine music and folk song at I.Tsiamoulis’ school where he sang with the school children’s choir. In 1988 he started studying Lyra and Lute with Ross Daly and a year later he joined his group “Labyrinthos”. In the last twenty years Sinopoulos has collaborated with composers, musicians and singers from Greece and abroad in various genres, from folk music to jazz, participating in countless concerts and recordings all around the world. In 1999 he was honored with the Melina Mercouri national award for young artists. In 2011 he created Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet. The debut album of the quartet, eight Winds was produced by Manfred Eicher for ECM records and was released in September 2015.
