This year’s 12th Edition of The Penang Island Jazz Festival will be held from the December 3 to 6 2015 with an exciting programme of musical activities! The Penang Island Jazz Festival is held in the grounds of the Bayview Beach Resort, right by the beach. With rolling, tree-covered hills as a backdrop to the main stage and grounds studded with centuries-old tress, the setting is idyllic.

Malaysia’s longest running annual independent jazz festival, the Penang Island Jazz Festival is back and we will be celebrating its 12th edition from the 3rd to 6th December 2015!

This year, the festival’s “Jazz By The Beach” main stage programme features a wide variety of musical styles with “Makiko Hirabayashi Trio” featuring internationally renowned Marilyn Mazur on drums/percussions and Klavs Hovman on bass, “CaboCubaJazz”, “Tobias Preisig Quartet”, “Andreya Triana”, “Dos Orientales”, “Angelika Niescier NOW Trio”, “Near East Quartet”, “Anne Paceo Yokai”, “Nina & The Butterfly Fish”, “Derek Brown BEATBoX SAX” and The “Penang Philharmonic Big Band”.

Besides its’ main outdoor “Jazz By The Beach” stage which features local and international performers, other musical activities include this year’s opening concert – “An Acoustic Evening” session at 23, Love Lane, Workshops conducted by participating Artists, The Island Music Forums comprising of local and international panel members on a number of informative topics revolving around the theme of “Going Beyond”, A Jazz Gallery which will host the “The Visual Arts of Copenhagen Jazz Festival” and “Penang’s Popular Musical Heritage” poster and photograph exhibitions, The Creative Malaysia Fringe programme that focuses on local Malaysian acts, the unique Sunrise @ Tropical Spice Garden which starts at 7.00am on Saturday morning, A Talk and performance on the Musical Heritage of Penang’s Popular Music and the After Hours Jazz Jam held after the main stage performances that goes on till the wee hours of the morning.
