The Half Note was first opened in 1979 in a basement of Michalakopoulou street, in Athens. In 1995 it moved to Trivonianou street, in Metz and found a permanent place. From there have passed some of the most important names in international jazz scene such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Danny Richmond, Dexter Gordon, Monty Alexander, Benny Wallace, Archie Shepp, Arthur Blythe, Steve Lacy, Chico Hamilton, Mal Waldron, Benny Golson, Vuster Williams, Lou Donaldson and many others.
Each year from October to May the Half Note Jazz Club organizes about 250 concerts with bands from all around the world. The music style of The Half Note covers a very wide range, from jazz and blues, to ethnic, Latin, soul and funk.
