Mimis Plessas  is one of the most significant modern Greek composers. He has written music for over 100 Greek movies, Greek radio, theatre and TV. He has co-worked with notable Greek singers and lyricists. He combined the traditions of entehno and laïkó with considerable success, creating a notable personal-style which became very popular. In 2001 he was honoured with the Gold Cross of the Order of the Phoenix.

Plessas, who was born in Athens, joined the Greek state radio orchestra when still a schoolboy as its premier piano soloist, collaborating with all the well-known singers of the time.Still a young man, he was awarded the top music prize by Minnesota University in 1951 and the next year was named the fifth best pianist in
the USA.
His early compositions were awarded six distinctions in Greece and seven internationally (Barcelona, Warsaw, Belgium Paris, USA, Tokyo and Alto Monte in Italy.
His songs have helped make famous many singers and actors such as Nana Mouskouri, Marinella, Yiannis Voyiatzis, Yiannis Poulopoulos, Tolis Voskopoulos and Stratos Dionisiou, to name just a few.
His wide ranging oeuvre includes prize winning compositions both in Greece and abroad for the theatre and cinema, contributing the scores for 104 films and 70 plays.
He has conducted his works with some of the greatest orchestras around the world, and won many gold and platinum discs. In 2000 the city of Athens honoured him with the Gold Medal of the City for his 50 years of service to Greek music and culture, in a ceremony at the Athens Concert Hall. Other honours have included the Gold Cross of the Phoenix, awarded by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
Mimis Plessas continues to maintain high standards in all his work, including concerts that have made him famous around the world.
