Jazz Flute

Leonidas Sarantopoulos was born in 1986 Athens, Greece. He graduated from the Music Highschool-Lyceum of Pallini Attikis, in 2004 and entered the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece. He studied jazz flute, primarily with the saxophone player Dimos Dimitriadis and secondarily with Vasilis Rakopoulos and George Kontrafouris.

He was a regular member of the Ionian University Free Improvisation Ensemble from 2004-2009 and participated in numerous free jazz and improvisation gigs. Moreover, he attended for several times the Summer Music Academy of the Ionian University, participating in concerts and seminars conducted by world-famous jazz players. In 2010 he was awarded the B.A. degree of the Department, ever since he conducts his artistic activities in Athens.

In February 2011 he records his first album entitled “Black Mamba” including 9 original compositions, flawlessly performed by successful and competent Greek musicians (V. Rakopoulos, A. Polyzogopoulos, G. Georgiadis etc.). The album “Black Mamba” is available electronically, since January 2012, via his personal website www.LeoSarantopoulos.com. A track from this unit was published as part of the collection of the greek magazine Jazz & Jazz (is. of November 2011, No 224).

In November 2011 he presented his music in the Thessaloniki Concert Hall under the aegis of the production “Jazz Now!”. Since December 2011 he works as a flute teacher/educator in the Music Highschool-Lyceum of Alimos, in Athens, Greece.
