Penelope was born in Thessaloniki.. At the age of 7 she started piano lessons and music theory. In 1995 she graduated, and also gave concerts and participated in broadcasts on radio and also released her first album with compositions of her father, Nikolaos Tzanetakis. She attended seminars in Jazz improvisation and repertoire with John Hendricks, Sanii Orasmaa and Sheila Jordan and participated in concerts with the Ensemble Jazz at the Aristotle University where she studied under the direction of Minas Alexiadis.In 2002 she won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music and the third prize at the festival Voice Skills “Sarandev” in Dobrich, Bulgaria. In 2003, she went to the Ionian University, where she participated in jazz concerts with the university. In 2005, she got her Diploma degree in classical piano Distinction Award and completed her university with graduation on Jazz Vocal Performance and Composition, where she presented her own compositions with lyrics and music. She went for a short time in New York (USA), where she followed seminars with John Blake and plays at various Club. In 2007 she returned to Greece, started to teach and participated in several bands (Penelope’s Cruise, Oleg Chaly Hammond Trio, Cool Jazz Quartet, etc). She collaborated with George Hatzinasios at Half Note Jazz Club and the Voyage Jazz Band at the Athens Concert Hall. She participated in the 2010 Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead in Washington DC (USA) after selection of 143 people from around the world based on their composition, skill in improvisation and vocal ability, scholarship, during which the program were performances by original compositions of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Millenium Stage), at Howard University and the Berk’s Jazz Festival. She teaches while preparing her first album with her own compositions and covers.
