Terry Vakirtzoglou was born in Athens.She started taking music lessons at the age of 12, but her first experiences in local choirs began even earlier, when she was a child. In 2004 she was accepted at the Music Department of the Ionian University in Corfu. As a student at Ionian University, she decided to become an improvisational musician and to emphasize on jazz studies. After being accepted at the Jazz Performance Direction, she had the opportunity to take lessons with great Greek jazz musicians,  such as George Kontrafouris, Dimos Dimitriadis, Dimitris Kalatzis, Alexander Drakos Ktistakis, Vassilis Rakopoulos , but also to continue her studies with classical singing  with Rosa Poulimenou. She  participated in many different academic concerts as a member of the Ionian Jazz Ensemble, Free Improvisation Ensemble and Classical Singing Class. At the same time, she was also a member and a bandleader in professional bands of different music styles. For 5 years in a row (2006-2010), she was awarded scholarships for the  Ionian Summer Jazz Academy of the Department of Music, where  she worked with some of the most renowned jazz artists in the world, including Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Katchie Cartwright, Jd Walter. At the same time, she took part in the Musical Theatre Concerts and Seminars (2004/2009), with Cindy Trend, where she was one of the main soloists.
After graduating in 2010, she won the Fulbright Scholarship and the Onassis Foundation scholarship for continuing her studies in New York City, at Queens College / Aaron Copland School of Music. In 2012 she was a semifinalist for the International Jazz Competition”Voicingers” in Poland.
In 2013 she earned her degree in Jazz Vocal Performance and continuing working in New York where she performed in different venues including “Cornelia St Cafe “, “Le Poisson Rouge”, “Swing 46”, “Silvana” and many more. In 2014 she earned the artist visa 0-1 that has been given to artists with significant artistic ability from all over the world and allows them to work and live in the U.S A for three years as professional artists.
Terry currently lives in Athens, Greece where she is preparing to record her upcoming debut album “Qualia”” later this year. Working with a significant team of skillful jazz musicians the project has been praised by the audience and jazz critics around the city. Terry is also a vocal coach at the music school “Lab Music Education” located in Athens, as well as currently teaching jazz vocals at Ionian University of Corfu.
