Pianist, composer

Zoe Efstathiou is a greek pianist and composer active in the field of contemporary experimental improvised music. She is exploring the timbral attributes of the piano in relation to space and room acoustics by tracing the microlevel sound articulations and subtle nuances caused by sonic phenomena. Using preparations and extended techniques and inspired by electronic music, she creates an exciting palette of textures. After studing both classical piano performance in Athens (graduated with Diploma from Filippos Nakas Concervatory), she studied jazz at Ionian University in Corfu and graduated with a bachelor in Jazz Piano Performance with grade excellent and being the first female instrumentalist graduate of the program. In Greece she has performed with some of the most distinguished and veteran musicians in jazz and in 2014 was invited to present her music at the prestigeous festival Greek Jazz Panorama at Onassis Cultural Center. In 2015 she moved to Sweden and continued her studies in three countries and three of the most sought after higher institutions in Scandinavia – Högskolan för scen och Music (Gothenburg, Sweden), Rhythmic Music Concervatory RMC ( Copenhagen, Denmark), Norwegian Music Academy (NMH, Oslo) and graduated in 2017 with Master in Improvisation. She is currently continuing her research at RMC in Copenhagen admitted on the Post Graduate ‘Soloist’ programme. She is active in the contemporary improvised music scene in Scandinavia and has performed with many constelations in festivals in Scandinavia and Europe (A l’Arme Festival Berlin, Copenhagen Jazz Festival among others).
