He was a great figure of American blues ... Pianist Pinetop Perkins died at the age of 97 years. He had just received a Grammy Award for his latest album, "Joined at the Hip", recorded with one of his old friends, Willie 'Big Eyes'Smith. Born in the cotton fields of Mississippi, Pinetop Perkins had played with Big Joe Williams, Sonny Boy Williamson and of course Muddy Waters.


Kellylee Evans has taken over Nikki Yanofsky at the Junos 2011, which are sort of the Canadian equivalent of the American Grammy Awards... The young singer received the Juno for best jazz vocal album for her album tribute to Nina Simone.


Paul Motian never says "Stop" ... The 80 years old former drummer of Bill Evans signs a new album, "The Windmills Of Your Mind", recorded with Bill Frisell on guitar, Thomas Morfan on bass, and Petra Haden singing (daughter of Charlie Haden).

On 6 April 2011 the Recording Academy announced a major overhaul of many Grammy Award categories. From 2012, the number of categories will fall from 109 to 78. Some categories will be discontinued, others will be merged or renamed. Regarding jazz two categories will be removed : the Best Contemporary Jazz Album and the Best Latin Jazz Album Dictionnaire
