Oud player Alekos Vretos knows jazz and this time around he will be presenting a concoction of Arabic, jazz and Latin music along with a hefty helping of improvisation. While his quartet works a tight show, Vretos allows his fellow artists to let their creativity shine through. The result is an explosive, interactive atmosphere which echoes his belief that there is an innate human need for music.The show will feature compositions from Vretos’ new CD Mergin as well as works by other composers of jazz and Arabic music, including Wayne Shorter, Ara Dinkjian and Anouar Brahem, among others.
