The success of the event comes down to the variety of talents and music genres, and to the fact that the festival provides something for everyone. In a short period of time Tinos Jazz Festival has become a unique forum for both contemporary and future jazz. It offers you the opportunity to get familiar with jazz in all its forms, to discover the newest evolutions, to experience the confrontation between styles and artistic views.

– 23:00 – Saskia Laroo Group
Saskia Laroo, hailed by American public and press at large as “Lady Miles of Europe”, is one of the few women trumpet stylists, blowing for more than three decades. Born in Amsterdam, she began on trumpet at age 8, never dreaming of becoming a professional musician. That all changed when Saskia, turned 18 – after briefly majoring in mathematics at University of Amsterdam-, switched her focus to a career in music. She worked extensively in various groups from this point, at first mostly on upright bass, though eventually, on both bass and trumpet; the trumpet became her main instrument. Saskia Laroo combines today’s music by uncontrived romps into new styles, eagerly limned as “nu jazz” or “swingin’ body-music”-a vivacious blend of hip-hop, jazz, salsa, funk reggae and world.
She will be performing at this year’s Tinos Jazz Festival with her formation: Jazzkia+, including:
Saskia Laroo, trumpet, vocals – Gideon hamburger, guitar – Warren Byrd, piano, vocals – Maarten Bakker, bass – Willem Smid, drums
George Tsolis Trio & George Trantalidis Trilogia feat Tony Lakatos on August 26, 2012 at Tinos Jazz Festival –
George Tsolis Trio
George Tsolis, pianist and composer, lives since 2004 in The Hague where he has completed his studies in the Jazz Department of the Royal Academy atThe Hague. The trio plays his own compositions and has references to fusion jazz of Chick Corea, the latin rhythm and explosiveness of Michel Camilo. The music of the trio reflects personal interpretation ideas and music influences of the pianist as well as the 2 other members of the trio. Of course as a jazz trio the sound and the “color” of the compositions follow the “path” of jazz music. In this way the personal influences, music experiences and ideas are coming together with the jazz idiom aiming to create a modern sound. The trio is mostly active in the local jazz scene in Nederland but also in other countries like Greece. The bassist stathis elio and The drummer Francesco De rubeis constitute a strong rhythm section that produce a solid sound proper for this style of jazz.

In 2004 he participated as composer and arranger in the starting ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games with his composition “Karpos” ( a remake of Manos Hatzidakis “To asteri tou voria”).He is currently performing with his trio: Trilogia with George Kontrafouris on Hammond and Yiotis Samaras on guitar . Three Greek virtuosos with soul, imagination and power–which is to say three genuine artists–joining forces with a truly stellar improviser to form an explosive contemporary jazz trio. The three talented musicians have met long time ago, and given the important recordings and wealth of experience as group leaders and members of other international ensembles they each bring to the encounter, the result is always awesome
