Keith Jarrett 1945
Keith Jarrett is arguably one of the great artists of the latter half of the 20th into the 21st century. His work has elicited both praise and scorn from many critics.

Like Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett is one of the most influential jazz pianists to emerge after Thelonious Monk. His lengthy improvisational explorations and emotional poignancy is heard in many of the latest generation of pianists like Brad Mehldau, and Marilyn Crispell.

Keith Jarrett literally changed the conversation in jazz by introducing an entirely new aesthetic regarding solo improvisation in concert. Though capable of playing in a wide variety of styles, Jarrett is deeply grounded in the jazz tradition. He has recorded nearly 80 albums as a leader in jazz and classical music. And he has won the Down Beat Critics Poll as a pianist numerous times, including consecutively between 2001 and 2008.
