The 2013 Kyoto Prize for music goes to seminal pianist Cecil Taylor. The award to Cecil Taylor reads: “An Innovative Jazz Musician Who Has Fully Explored the Possibilities of Piano Improvisation”
The finals of the Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition -Nov 11 at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) with special guest judges Al Jarreau, Janis Siegel, Gretchen Parlato, WBGO Jazz 88.3’s WBGO Gary Walker and Larry Rosen. Following an extensive international talent search, NJPAC will host performances by the five finalists in this season’s second annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and Sassy Award.

Live in Los Angeles and will air live on the CBS Television Network on Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, setting the stage for the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The winners of the Victoires du Jazz 2013 awarded on Friday, June 28 at the opening of Jazz festival in Vienna, distinguished two trumpeters Ibrahim Maalouf as Artist of the Year and Mederic Collignon, Record of the Year, with his tribute to King Crimson. Trophy Newcomer of the Year was awarded to young pianist Thomas Enhco summer.
