Jazzonline presents here the best  of Greek Jazz Piano, since the apparition of the jazz scene in the country.

With the exception of players like Thelonious Monk or Art Tatum, piano players don't quite have the name recognition of their horn playing counterparts. All the same, these ivory ticklers play an equally integral role in jazz. The piano has been an integral part of the jazz idiom since its inception, in both solo and ensemble settings. Its role is multifaceted due largely to the instrument's combined melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic capabilities. The sound is unique and your feet start to move. When jazz music grew to popularity, there hadn't been anything like it before – it became the iconic sound of an era and is still popular today. The piano is an important part of jazz music, and some of the greatest jazz musicians played it. ( Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Duke Ellington, Wynton Kelly, Chick Corea , Keith Jarrett, Horace Silver,  Dave Brubeck, Kenny Baron etc…). We compiled this rundown of jazz's most virtuosic piano players of the Greek Jazz and present it to you.

Markos Alexiou – One of the most influential musicians of modern jazz in Greece and a mentor.
Manolis Mikelis - One of the greatest Greek pianists of all time. 
Mimis Plessas  - One of the most significant modern Greek composers.
         



THE NEXT GENERATION
         
Pantelis Benetatos - Jazz piano Professor of the Philippos Nakas Conservatory,  Pantelis Benetatos, has a long term service in latin jazz music.
Dimitris Kalantzis - Pianist with a great career on the Greek jazz but not only. He is well know for his album Manos. An album 100% Xatzidakis and 100% Jazz !
George Kontrafouris - Jazz pianist & organist with an international career and probably the leading and most restless figure of his generation on the Greek jazz scene.  His last album Haunted Poems is in the top 3 of the best album of 2016 (Jazzonline Critics Poll) .
Manos Saridakis - An important musician of the Greek Jazz scene.
Lefteris Kordis - "Pianist Kordis is a masterful musician whose nimble mind can perform the most amazing spontaneous improvisations on any given theme … “
Spyros Manesis - Spyros Manesis is a dominant figure in the Greek Jazz scene, and an active member of the European jazz scene. In 2015, his trio (Spiral Trio) was awarded with the 1st Prize at the 1st Greek Jazz competition “Apollon”.
Dimitris Sevdalis - Dimitris sevdalis is a master in latin piano jazz. He currently plays with Crazy People Music, Alekos Vretos Band and his trio. He just released his first album: Melodies From the other Side.
Vagelis Stefanopoulos -  His lalbum, Singularity Project, was in the top 3 of the best album 2016. (Jazzonline Critics Poll).
George Tsolis - Based in The Netherlands, George is an active member of the European jazz scene.

Nikolas Anadolis - At just 26 years old, Nicolas Anadolis, with a distinction from Boston Berklee shool of music and the 1st prize of the international jazz piano competition "Martial Solal" in 2010, is ready to write his own story on the world jazz scene...

Yiannis Papadopoulos - An active young jazz pianist in the city. He currently plays with The NEXT STEP and his Trio (Yiannis Papadopoulos Trio), and also with Alex Drakos Trio .
